Hilo Man Charged with Copper Theft

A 24-year-old Hilo man has been charged with copper theft.

According to a Hawai’i Police Department release, the man, identified as Norton Castro, was arrested in downtown Hilo on the morning of Oct. 3 and taken to the Hilo police cellblock.

The theft, which occurred on Aug. 14 at the Wainaku Executive Center, continued to be investigated by detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section.

Castro was charged at 4 p.m. the same day with theft of copper. His bail for the charge was set at $10,000. In addition to the copper theft, he was charged with violating probation. His bail for the probation charge was set at $20,000.
