Fatal Accident at Kohala Ranch

A  50-year-old Utah man died Wednesday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash in Kohala Ranch.

According to a press release from the Hawai’i County Police Department, his name has not been released.

The accident occured around 4 p.m.

Police said the man was driving a 1998 Toyota Land Rover and traveling east on Kohala Ranch Road at the intersection with Olomana Road when he lost control, ran off the right shoulder and collided with a tree.

Fire Rescue took him to North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:55 pm.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt.

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of the death.
