Kona Man Faces Burglary Charges

Hawai’i Island police have charged a Kona man in connection with a burglary on Tuesday.

According to a press release issued Wednesday, police responded to a report of an in-progress burglary around 3:55 a.m. Tuesday at a condominium complex at the 5800 block of Alii Drive in Kona.

According to the release, the resident manager of the complex reported hearing noises coming from a locked laundry facility.

Officials said they saw a man carrying a backpack flee from the laundry facility.

Officers eventually arrested Ian Medeiros, 23,  of Kona in relation to the crime.

Police say the room had been forcibly entered and that laundry equipment had been damaged and coins removed from locked containers.

Police charged Medeiros with burglary, criminal property damage, theft, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest, methamphetamine trafficking, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bail is set at $64,000 and his court date is scheduled for Thursday.
