Airlines, Buses Down, Police Go Door-to Door

Hawaiian Airlines, the last airline still operating out of Hilo today, will ground its flights at 3:35 p.m. today at Hilo International Airport until further notice.

Flight operations were continuing at Kona International Airport as of 1: 30 p.m., however.

Hawaii County’s Hele-on buses will be shut down at 7:30 p.m. and through tomorrow, said county officials.

Meanwhile, County Civil Defense officials have reported that guests at Uncle Billy’s Hotel in Hilo are requesting public shelter due to concerns about the structural integrity of the building.

And Hawaii County police are going door-to-door in shoreline neighborhoods such as Kapoho and Keaukaha advising residents of evacuation routes.
