Charles Wilhelm’s Ultimate Super Horse Challenge for junior riders, the first-ever competition of its kind to be held in Hawaii, will take place Aug. 2-3, 2014 at the Parker Ranch Arena in Kamuela.
The challenge is a clinic and competition for ages 12-18 that tests communication between horse and rider, horsemanship and riding skills at the walk, trot and lope.
According to Super-Horse trainer, author and TV host Charles Wilhelm, “A Super Horse can do extraordinary things over and above the everyday challenge. In fact, a Super Horse can do a parade one day and work cows the next. I’m excited to see how Hawaii’s young riders and their horses perform.”
The Ultimate Super Horse Junior Challenge is suitable for young riders of any discipline and horses of all breeds. As the horse and rider work through each event, they will be judged on several criteria and overall performance, and the top five horse-and-rider teams will advance to the finale on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 3.

“Junior riders across the state of Hawaii are encouraged to apply to the Ultimate Super Horse Junior Challenge,” said Tom Richmond, Hawaii District High School Rodeo Association. “We’ve got terrific talent in Hawaii and this is an opportunity to test riders and horses at their finest. The experience gained will be well worth it.”
Prizes include a $1,000 grant from Hawaii Horse Expo. Entry forms, rules, fees, schedules, waivers, prize list and additional details on the entry process are available for at HawaiiHorseExpo.com.

Proceeds from Hawaii Horse Expo benefit the Humane Society’s Horse Rescue Fund, which helps abused and abandoned horses on the island.
