Tuesday is Deadline for Candidates to File for Office

The deadline for candidates to file for the upcoming election is 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3.

State elections officials caution that those looking to file on June 3 may face a lengthy wait.

They are also recommending that prospective candidates gather more than the minimum number of signatures for the office they are seeking.

The 2014 elections will feature 105 contests statewide.

The primary election will be held Saturday, Aug. 9. The primary registration deadline is July 10, with applications for absentee voting due by Aug. 2. Early voting for the primary will begin on July 28.

The general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Deadline to register for that election is Oct. 6, with absentee voting applications due by Oct. 28.

Voters can register at the county offices of elections or through the WikiWiki process by mail.

During the past session, state lawmakers passed a law that would allow voters to register at absentee polling places beginning in 2016. Registration would be allowed at polling places on election day beginning in 2018.

The measure, House Bill 2590, is still pending action by the governor.
