An alert neighbor resulted in the arrest last week of three men in connection with the burglary of a Hilo home in the area of the Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

The neighbor called police at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, April 3, to report a burglary in progress on Likeke Street. Afterwards, two men fled the home on foot.

Police later determined that the house had been broken into and a variety of items had been taken including cash, jewelry and a computer tablet. The value of the stolen items was $6,675.

At 1:10 p.m., police arrested 23-year-old Ethan Legaspi on Laula Road in connection with the burglary.

Further investigation led to the arrest of 23-year-old Kawika Larinaga-Naphihaa on suspicion of burglary and on an outstanding warrant for contempt of court. Also arrested in connection with the break-in was 23-year-old Noah Simeona.

All three are Hilo residents.

Legaspi was charged Friday with burglary and theft, and his bail was set at $26,000. Larinaga-Napihaa was charged Saturday with burglary and his bail was $25,000.

Simeona was released late Friday without charges pending further investigation.

The arrests were the second in less than a week resulting from a report received from a neighbor about a burglary in progress.
