UHH’s Greene Earns PWC Softball Player of the Week Award
An impressive display of power at the plate led University of Hawai`i at Hilo junior Emily Greene to receive the Hawaii Tourism Authority / PacWest Conference Softball Player of the Week award, announced Monday by the conference.
Greene batted 7-for-12 (.583) during the week of March 10-16. The Vulcans went 3-1 during that span, splitting a pair of games against Academy of Art before sweeping Dominican University on Saturday.
In Thursday’s 10-8 loss to Academy of Art in the first game of a doubleheader, Greene batted 4-for-4 with an RBI single and a grand slam home run. She also doubled in a run, driving in six total runs in the contest. In the second game, she hit 1-for-3 with a three run homer in her team’s 8-4 victory.
Two days later, the Vulcans won 8-0 and 9-1 over Dominican at the UH-Hilo Softball Field. Greene drove in a pair of runs on a first inning double and hit 2-for-3 in the game. She walked twice and went 0-for-1 in the finale.
Greene, last year’s All-PacWest First Team selection at third base, currently sits fifth in the PacWest with a .429 batting average. Her eight doubles and 27 runs batted in also sit fifth among the conference’s rankings. She also has four home runs on the year.
UH-Hilo takes its 15-9 overall record to the road beginning Saturday when it faces Dixie State University for a four-game weekend series. The 10 game trip includes non-conference doubleheaders with UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino before wrapping up with a PacWest doubleheader at Azusa Pacific.
