Pi`ihonua Gym to Close for Renovations

The county Department of Parks and Recreation will be closing Pi`ihonua Gym on Monday, March 17, for renovations expected to last several months.

The popular gym at Gilbert Carvalho Park on Waianuenue Avenue is not expected to reopen until the end of May.

The work entails repair and recoating of the gym’s floor, installation of new baskets and backboards and the addition of more lighting.

Parks and Recreation recently completed similar renovations to the Andrews Gym.

The park’s playground is currently closed while new keiki equipment is being added.

Carvalho Park’s baseball field, pavilion and parking lots will remain open.
