Kohala High School alum Brandon Bautista was named to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion All-Conference Team this week.

Bautista, a 5-foot-7 junior guard, finished third on his Oregon Tech basketball team with 10.1 points per game. His 146 assists and 46 steals were both team highs for the Owls, who finished the 2013-2014 season with a 17-15 record.

Bautista was a former Division II player of the year and All-State selection at Kohala High School under veteran head coach Don Fernandez. At Oregon Tech, he plays under another veteran, Danny Miles, who has spent 43 seasons at the helm of the program. Miles, who has the school’s gymnasium named after him, crossed the 1,000 win plateau this season and is sitting on 1,004 victories in his career.

Bautista is not the only Big Island born player at Oregon Tech. Tyler Van Kirk, a graduate of Hawai`i Preparatory Academy, just finished his rookie season with the Owls. He played in just 19 games, scoring 12 points and averaging over five minutes per game.
