Man Robbed Feb. 14 at Carlsmith Beach Park

Police are investigating a robbery that occurred earlier this month at a Hilo beach park.

A 58-year-old Hilo man reported that he was robbed at mid-morning on Feb. 14 in the parking lot at Carlsmith Beach Park.

The man said he was loading his car following a swim when he was approached from behind by someone asking for help.

When the victim turned around, the suspect punched him, grabbed his wallet and ran away.

He may have gotten into a small white sedan that left toward Hilo.

carlsmith park signThe assailant was described as a slim local man in his 20s with a tan complexion and short black. He was unshaven and was wearing dark surf shorts.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident of has information on the suspect is asked to call the police department at 935-3311.

Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 861-8300.
