A fire of unknown origin destroyed a small home in upper Puna Tuesday.

Firefighters from the Keaau Fire Station arriving at 12:17 p.m. found the house in the Hawaii Island Paradise Acres subdivision in Mountain View engulfed in flames.

A fire department spokesman said the Maui Street home’s walls had burned away with only the frame still standing. The roof had partially fallen when firefighters arrived and soon collapsed entirely. No injuries were reported.

It took 12 firefighters, including three volunteers, about a half-hour to extinguish the blaze.

Value of the two-story, 24-foot by 16-foot unpermitted structure was estimated at $45,000.

Red Cross personnel were at the scene to provide assistance to the family involved, the spokesman said.
