Bids are due next month on the second phase of renovations to Kaiminani Drive, a major mauka-makai connector in Kailua-Kona.
As it did in the first phase, the work will involve repaving with six-foot shoulders, relocation of underground utilities and construction of drywells and retaining walls.
The project estimated to cost about $15 million is expected to get underway in the summer and will take approximately two years to complete.
The bid notice for the work went out on Dec. 30, and the deadline for completed bids is Feb. 6.
As with the other phase, 80% of the work is paid for with federal funds, with the county covering the remainder.
The project involves work from Ahiahi Street to the planned intersection with the Ane Keohokalole Highway.
