Police have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death of a 55-year-old California man who was scuba diving Thursday off the Kona coast.

Police said county paramedics were called at 7:12 p.m. to Honokohau Harbor to meet a commercial dive boat. They were told that the man, identified as James Uihlein of Fallbrook, Calif., had become unresponsive while diving.

Paramedics transported Uihlein to Kona Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:27 p.m.
