Two Hilo men were arrested by police Friday for allegedly stealing fishing equipment from a vessel moored at the Wailoa Small Boat Harbor.

Police said they received a call shortly after midnight reporting suspicious behavior involving men aboard a boat at the harbor.

Patrol officers determined that the men had removed items from the boat and fled in a pickup truck.

When police caught up with the vehicle nearby they found eight fishing poles with reels in the truck’s bed and arrested Milton Ahnee, 47, and Dennis Poai, 36.

Also allegedly found in the truck were nearly a gram of a crystalline substance, drug paraphernalia, a rifle and ammunition.

Both men were charged with burglary and theft, and Poai was also charged with promoting a dangerous drug, drug paraphernalia and four firearms offenses.

Bail was set at $121,000 for Poai and at $20,000 for Ahnee.
