Mediation Center Fund-Raiser ‘Best Ever,’ Director Says

A fund-raising event held earlier this month by the Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center was a rousing success, Executive Director Julie Mitchell said today.

She said the center’s eighth annual Recognition Dinner and Auction held Nov. 10 was the “best ever,” raising more than $15,000 for the non-profit human services agency.

The event included honoring District Court judges Harry Freitas and Barbara Takase woth “Peacemaker Awards” for their support of alternate dispute resolution. Family Court Judge Anthony Bartholomew was also recognized by the Hawaii County Bar Association.

The event emceed by Newton Chu included auction items provided by more than 50 businesses and individuals.

“On behalf of our community mediation center, I want to give big mahalos to everyone who made this fundraiser possible, from our generous auction donors to the various folks who donated their time and money to contribute to its success,” Mitchell said.

“Thanks are also in order to our board of directors, the Hawai’i County Bar Association, and the approximately 150 ticket buyers and attendees,” she said. “It was quite a lively crowd!”

Ku‘ikahi offers mediation, facilitation and training to strengthen the ability of diverse individuals and groups to resolve interpersonal conflicts and community issues.
