Police said today that an investigation into an attempted sexual assault reported to have occurred at the University of Hawaii at Hilo on Tuesday, Nov. 19, has revealed that it did not occur, and the case has been closed as unfounded.

A false report case has been initiated, police said.

The incident was initially said to have occurred in a bathroom in the UH-Hilo Geology Building.

False reporting is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.
