Scholarships and financial aid will be the focus of an event to be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Hawaii Community College.

The “HawCC Ohana Scholarship Night” is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. at the Manono Campus Cafeteria in Hilo.

The event will help current and prospective students and their parents learn about assistance for tuition for the fall 2014 semester.

The event will feature food, games and a chance to win a $250 scholarship, the college said.

Attendees can learn tips and strategies for preparing winning scholarship applications, and learn about the resources available to get help obtaining scholarships and financial aid.

“Last year we awarded about $75,000 in scholarships, and coming to HawCC ‘Ohana Scholarship Night is a great first step to securing some of those scholarship funds for fall 2014,” said Jason Cifra, vice chancellor for student affairs.

HCC will also be hosting scholarship and financial aid workshops and tutoring sessions during the next three months. More information is available here.

Prospective and current students who will be attending Hawai‘i CC in fall 2014 can apply for scholarships online at hawaii.edu/finaid/scholarships/system. The application period is Dec. 1, 2013 to March 1, 2014.

For more information, call Hawai‘i CC at (808) 934-2800.
