UH-Hilo forward Kristine Pasek earned the Pacific West Conference’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week award for games played Oct. 14-20.

The highlight moment of the week for the junior was a game-winning goal scored last Monday against Notre Dame de Namur. It was the only goal scored in the Vulcans’ shutout victory.

On Saturday, Pasek put the Vulcans on the board first against Dominican with a first half goal in the 33rd minute of play. UH-Hilo went on to beat the Penguins 2-1 in overtime.

“She’s been working hard all year and I’m glad to see her work pay off for her with this nice award,” said Lance Thompson, the school’s Director of Soccer.

Pasek, a native of Apple Valley, CA, scored a total of four points during the week as her Vulcans went 2-0-0. She leads her team with three goals and is tied for the team lead with six total points tallied.

UH-Hilo has won its last four matches to push its record to 8-3-1 overall and 5-3 in PacWest play.

Thompson noted that home cooking has been key to his team’s recent success. The last three match wins have all come at home. “I think the one big equalizer in this league is to travel…it’s tough to play on the road in this league because it’s four games over a seven day period. That gets pretty taxing.”

The Vulcans will jump on a plane one last time when they visit Hawai`i Pacific University in Kaneohe, Oahu. The women’s match kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with the men to follow at approximately 3 p.m.
