A Captain Cook woman was charged today in connection with a car theft earlier this month from the new Mamalahoa Bypass Road that leads from Keauhou to Kealakekua.

Investigation of the Sept. 12 theft of the Acura Legend sedan led to the arrest Wednesday of 22-year-old Randi-Keli Banagan, who was already in custody at the Kona police cellblock on a contempt of court charge.

Bail for Banagan was set at $2,000 on the car theft charge. She remained in custody today pending an initial court appearance Friday.
