A 28-year-old Kona man has been charged with breaking into a motor vehicle earlier this week in Kailua-Kona.
The theft occurred on Tuesday from a vehicle owned by a Holualoa woman who had gone swimming near the Kona Pier. When she returned she found that items she had placed in a public storage rack were missing.
The missing items included the key and key fob for her vehicle, and she soon discovered that it had been entered and property removed.
Police later learned the identity of a man who had been spotted in the area. The suspect, Travis Ray Maunakea Sanders of Kailua-Kona, was located the following day and arrested.
Using a search warrant, police allegedly found some of the stolen property in the backpack.
Police today charged Sanders with unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, two counts of theft, theft of a credit card, unauthorized possession of confidential information, two counts of promoting a dangerous drug, promoting a detrimental drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
