The county Department of Public Works is advising motorists to be aware of traffic delays resulting from a road resurfacing project in Kailua-Kona.

County crews on Wednesday will begin resurfacing a 455-foot section of the northbound lane of Kuakini Highway as it approaches the Old Kona Airport.

The project will begin at the Kaiwi Street intersection. Work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Motorists are advised to use Maka`ala Boulevard or Loloku Street to access the Kekuaokalani Gym-Park Complex.

A department spokeswoman said the project was to have begun Monday but was delayed while public works personnel assisted the Civil Defense Agency during the passing of Tropical Storm Flossie.
