Electrical service to the district of North Kohala will again be temporarily shut off overnight twice next month, Hawaii Electric Light Co. said.

The outages are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on both Tuesday, Aug. 13, and Wednesday, Aug. 14, and last until 5 a.m. the following mornings.

According to HELCO, this is the last phase of a project to upgrade equipment at the Waimea substation.

There were also two consecutive nights of outages in June.

The utility recommends keeping doors to refrigerator and freezers closed during the outage, and to unplug sensitive electronic equipment prior to the shut-off.

Anyone requiring electricity for critical medical needs should make alternate arrangements, the company said.

Those with questions or concerns should call 969-6666.
