The Kako`o I Na Keiki drive to provide school supplies for needy Big Island children kicks into high gear Saturday with collections scheduled for locations in both East and West Hawaii.
The Hawaii Island United Way and KAPA FM, assisted by the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations and businesses, are spearheading the Support the Keiki program with events this week and next.
Live radio broadcasts and supply drives will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kona Commons and in front of the Puainako Longs Drugs store in Hilo.
Other drop-off locations for school supplies as well as monetary donations will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kmart, WalMart, Office Max and ChoiceMart stores in Kona, and at Longs and KTA in Waimea.
The effort takes a musical turn on Saturday, July 27, with the Hui Kakoyo Concert Series featuring Amy Hanaiali`i beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Keauhou Shopping Center in Kona.

Thirty-seven Big Island public schools benefited from the 2012 Support the Keiki program.
