Days of operation at four of the certified HI-5 redemption centers at county recycling and transfer stations will be reduced because of lower funding by the state Department of Health.

The changes will go into effect on Monday, July 15. All of the stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  on the following schedules:

  • Hilo will be open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • Waimea will be open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • Kealakehe will be open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • Keauhou will be open every day except Wednesday.

All of the above stations are currently open seven days a week except for Waimea, which is open daily except for Tuesday and Thursday.

Hours at certified redemption centers at all other transfer stations will remain unchanged, as will hours for privately operated redemption centers, county officials said.
