The Big Island Auto Club held their annual June Points Meet in front of approximately 500 fans at the Hilo Drag Strip Saturday.

Normally a two-day event, all events were completed on Saturday, giving racers and fans a Sunday off.

Daesha Tobara of Mountain View won the junior dragsters competition over Dione Tobara on a hole shot. Her best time was 10.23 seconds at 61 miles per hour.

In the mega bracket, Kea`au driver Kaike DePonte rode his Camaro to victory. DePonte clocked in at a time of 11.92 seconds as his Camaro topped at 122 mph. Richard Souza of Na`alehu finished second in a Chevrolet Bel Aire.

Saturday’s event also featured a motorcycle exhibition. Hilo’s John Malson drove his Suzuki down the track in 9.10 seconds to take the exhibition event. His bike reached 149 mph.

The Big Island Auto Club’s next points meet will be held July 13-14, also at the Hilo Drag Strip.
