A 24-year-old Puna woman has been charged with a burglary after allegedly being seen fleeing the scene of the crime.

Police said caretakers for a Pahoa resident returning to the home on May 12 found that the house had been entered and several items stolen.

They called police to report the burglary and also a vehicle observed driving away.

That information led police to Cherish Shay Kualiliani Torres of Pahoa, who was arrested Tuesday in Ainaloa.

Torres was charged later that day with first-degree burglary. Her bail was set at $5,000.

Police reminded the public to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhood to the police department at 935-3311.
