Workshop on How to Start a Small Business June 20 in Hilo
Hawaii Small Business Development Center will offer a three-hour workshop on how to start a small business on Thursday, June 20, in Hilo. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Hawaii Community College at 1175 Manono St., Bldg 379-1.
Participants will learn about entrepreneurship, key ingredients for business success, steps involved in starting a business, sources of capital and other resources for the start-up business.

Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce has released a new application (app) for mobile devices called MyChamber App. The free app, which is available for Android, Blackberry, iPhone and iPod users, helps consumers find discounts, events and services offered by Chamber members.

Auto Credit Financial Relocates Headquarters to Kailua-Kona
Auto Credit Financial has relocated its corporate headquarters from Traverse City, Mich. to Kailua-Kona. The firm provides automobile financing for people with bad credit, no credit or in bankruptcy.

CEO Mark Hergert previously lived on the Big Island for more than 15 years and is the former general manager of Big Island Jeep Eagle Mazda. The new headquarters are located in the Chamber of Commerce Center at 75-5737 Kuakini Hwy., Suite 202.
Unemployment Claims Decrease on Island
Initial unemployment claims increased statewide but decreased on the Big Island this week compared to a year ago.
According to the latest data from the state Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, there were 2,239 total filings statewide, an increase of 5.3% compared to 2,126 filings during the same week in 2012.

In Hawai‘i County, there were 412 claims filed this week, a decrease of 3.7%, compared to the 428 claims filed same week last year.
Of the 412 initial unemployment claims, 263 were filed in Hilo and 149 were filed in Kona.
