Workshops Offered on Understanding Work-Style Differences

A workshop on understanding work-style differences will be held June 5 from 9  to 11:45 a.m. at the Maluhia Building at 891 Ululani St. in Hilo.

The class will also be offered in Honoka‘a on July 17 from 9:15 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center located at 45-539 Plumeria St.

Sponsored by the University of Hawaii College of Continuing Education and Community Service, the class will cover different behavior styles and how those styles influence the way people work and communicate with others.

By becoming aware of behavior styles, people can build effective communication skills, reduce tension and develop more productive work relationships, workshop organizers said.

Participants will receive a personalized work-style assessment that will help them overcome conflicts, increase effectiveness and create a harmonious work environment.

Nancy Lombard, a certified instructor with the Effectiveness Institute, will teach both classes.

Cost of the class is $60 plus a $20 material fee.

For those who have taken the class previously, a refresher will be offered in Hilo on July 10 from 9 to 11:45 a.m. at the Maluhia Building.

Entitled “Teams That Work,” the follow-up class enables participants to refresh their skills.

The class will also explore the six characteristics of effective teams, including how styles affect team performance.

Participants will use these characteristics to evaluate their own teams and plan ways to influence or improve team effectiveness.

Successful completion of the “Understanding Work Style Differences” workshop is required in order to take the refresher class.

Cost of the refresher course is $60 plus a $15 materials fee.
