Ali`i Drive was closed this morning south of Kailua-Kona town as work was underway to replace a downed utility pole.

The downed pole was located between Royal Poinciana Drive and the Lyman Beach area.

One lane was open, the Civil Defense Agency reported at 6:45 p.m., but motorists were being advised to find alternate routes if possible.

The repair work and traffic delays were expected to continue past midnight.

It was not clear Friday evening whether the repair work was related to a leaning pole in the Banyans area that resulted in a power outage in the morning.
