High Surf Expected in Kona This Afternoon
A high-surf advisory has been issued for north- and west-facing shores of the Hawaiian Islands starting at noon today.
The National Weather Service said the west-northwest swell is also expected to impact the Kona coast of the Big Island beginning this afternoon.
The advisory will be upgraded to a warning level for west-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau, where surf is expected to reach of heights of 20 to 25 feet.
Forecasters said that “very strong breaking waves” and rip currents are expected, and inexperienced persons should remain off beaches and adjacent beachfront areas.
