The county Department of Water Supply said its well in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates has broken down, and is asking members of the public who obtain water from the drinking water spigots there to temporarily conserve their use.

A DWS spokeswoman said until repairs are completed, the public is being asked to limit their water consumption to drinking and other potable uses to avoid unnecessarily depleting the reservoir.

Also, the HOVE standpipes which supply commercial water haulers have been closed until further notice. The haulers are being asked to use alternate standpipe facilities in Na`alehu or Ho`okena until the matter is resolved.

A DWS crew is currently analyzing the situation and will provide additional information on the timeline of repairs as it becomes available.
