A 37-year-old Colorado man pulled from the water off a Puna beach Saturday died of drowning.

That was the results of an autopsy performed Tuesday, police said today.

Police and fire department personnel responding to a 3:38 p.m. call learned that the visitor had been jumping off cliffs with friends at Orr’s Beach off the Waawaa subdivision in lower Puna.

The man apparently became trapped by currents underwater. He was pulled from the ocean and taken to Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m.
