Police said a 3-year-old Hilo boy died Friday afternoon after being run over by a pickup truck in the Eden Roc subdivision in Puna.
Police said officers responding to a 3:26 p.m. call found that the boy had been playing in a 1993 Dodge truck. Investigators believe that the boy may have knocked the vehicle out of gear and it began rolling backwards.
The boy then jumped out of the truck and was run over, police said.
The victim was identified as Treston Crowley.

Police are investigating the death as a coroner’s inquest.
