Gov. Neil Abercrombie has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff Sunday in remembrance of longtime Big Island lawmaker Helene Hale.

The decree applies to all national and Hawaii flags at state offices and agencies, and extends from sunrise to sunset.

A memorial service will be held for Hale on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the Imiloa Astronomy Center.

Hale, a former state legislator and Hawaii County Council member, died Feb. 1 at the age of 94.
