Police Arrest Hilo Man in Double Murder

Police have arrested a 34-year-Hilo man in connection with a double murder in Hilo late Monday night.

Officers responding to reports at about 11:20 p.m. of several gunshots in the 600 block of Leilani Street found two victims with gunshot wounds.

The victims, both female, were taken to Hilo Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

Their identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Sean Ivan Masa Matsumoto was taken into custody at the scene on suspicion of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder.

Two children at the residence at the time of the shooting were uninjured. They are under the care of family members.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area as there are road closures between Hinano and Manono streets while police conduct their investigation.
