UPDATE: Wind Advisory Extended to 6 p.m. Today

***Updated Feb. 5.***

A wind advisory issued Monday by the National Weather Service has been extended to 6 p.m. today for much of the Big Island today.

Winds will be out of the Northeast at 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts to 45 miles per hour.

The affected Big Island areas include Hilo, Volcano, Pahala and the South Point areas on the windward side; Honoka`a in Hamakua; Waimea and Waikoloa in South Kohala; and North Kohala.

The summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa are also expected to experience strong winds.

During high winds, motorists are advised to use extra caution, especially those driving high-profile vehicles.
