Brews For the Big Rock
by Kristin Hashimoto
Songs are written and sung about it, people cry and bond over it.
Beer, brew, brewski or suds, whatever you call it, will be poured, tasted, judged and swallowed in copious amounts during the 18th annual Kona Brewers Fest on March 9.
So, why is this article appearing for an event that is over a month away? One word. Tickets.
On January 31, this massively popular, sellout event will begin selling passes for the brewfest on March 9, the golf tournament on the March 8, and Brewers Pa’ina on March 7.
The Pa’ina is a dining experience under the stars from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort. Live entertainment and great food and beer pairing will lead participants happily into the main event on March 9.
This year, the brewfest will have up to 70 types of ales and lagers along with gastronomic creations from 30 island restaurants and their chefs.
For four hours, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., enjoy gourmet food, live entertainment, trash fashion show, and craft beers.
The $60 ticket includes a commemorative event mug, eight four-ounce brew tasting coupons and food sampling.
Make sure to designate your driver, or stay the night or weekend in Kona. The Brewfest takes place on the grounds of the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel.
This event has raised over half a million dollars in the last 17 years for charitable organizations. For tickets visit www.konabrewersfestival.com.
