Groundbreaking on Jan. 31 for Kawaihae Harbor ImprovementsJanuary 23, 2013, 10:20 AM HST (Updated January 23, 2013, 12:24 PM)
A groundbreaking ceremony for improvements at Kawaiahae Harbor will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Pier 2 terminal.
The project includes construction of a three-acre cargo yard, additional lighting, a comfort station and establishment of a temporary harbor office.
Glenn Okimoto, director of the state Department of Transportation, will be speaking at the event.
Kawaihae Harbor is one of two deep-draft harbors on the Big Island.
