Man Found Walking With Loaded Shotgun in Kona

Police today said a man found Tuesday walking along a Kona highway with a loaded shotgun has been charged with multiple offenses.

Police said they received a report at 8 a.m. that morning that a man was walking along Route 11 in Kealakekua carrying what appeared to be a rifle.

When approached by police the man fled into the brush area behind the Pualani Terrace, but was found and arrested.

Police said a loaded shotgun and an additional 16 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspect, who was identified as 38-year-old Ioster Henly of Kailua-Kona.

Late Wednesday afternoon Henly was charged with possessing a loaded firearm on a public highway and four other firearms offenses, including failure to register the weapon and to obtain a firearm permit.

Henly’s bail was set at $13,000.
