The jobs situation on Hawaii Island continues to improve, according to the latest data released by the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.
DBET’s most recent report shows initial unemployment claims falling 13.8% on Hawaii Island compared to this same time last year.
East Hawaii saw slightly more improvement than the west side of the island, with initial claims falling 14.1% in Hilo and 13.4% in Kona.
State wide, the figure fell by 14.9%, with 1,889 initial weekly claims filed compared with 2,220 at this same time in 2012.
