The county of Hawaii has announced its holiday operating schedule for all landfills and transfer stations.

All 21 Big Island Solid Waste Transfer Stations and Landfills will be closed Christmas day and New Years day, reopening as normal on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, respectively.

The county is reminding the public that dumping any materials at or around the closed transfer stations during that time is an illegal act.

Illegal dumping may be subject to administrative and civil penalties of up to $10,000 per day for each offense. Dumping in excess of one cubic yard may be subject to criminal penalties of up to $25,000 per day for each offense.
