Electricity will be shut off for much of the day in Ookala on Thursday, Oct. 11, to allow for replacement of utility poles.

According to Hawaii Electric Light Co. spokesman Roger Keller, the outage will last from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The utility recommends that Ookala residents unplug any sensitive equipment prior to the outage. HELCO customers dependent on electric-powered, life-sustaining medical equipment should make necessary arrangements, the company said.
