Get ready to enjoy another weekend of choice fun and entertainment. Grab your friends, put the family in the car and go.

12th Annual Queen Liliuokalani Festival

On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the last reigning monarch will be honored at Queen Liliuokalani Park in Hilo. There will be over 400 dancers, live music, Taiko drummers, ukulele band, slides, crafts, food and much more.

This free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and shuttle service is available from the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.

Liliuokalani Garden is located on Banyan Drive in Hilo. The Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium is located at 323 Manono Street in Hilo.

Got Poke?

Amateurs and seasoned chefs will compete for the best poke bragging rights on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott’s ballroom.

This year there are 54 delicious entries. Each competitor will make six pounds of poke for the judges and the audience to sample. A Royal Court will appear at 12:45 p.m. and the attendees will gain entry to this ‘ono event for $7.

Poke is diced or cubed fresh raw fish that is seasoned and/or marinated in a variety of ways.

He Got Voice

This year’s amateur Clyde “Kindy” Sproat Falsetto Contest takes the best of the amateurs and deems one of them Hawai’i Island’s high pitched winner. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott.

Tickets are $7 each; the singing starts at 6:30 p.m. The Waikoloa Beach Marriott is located at 69-450 Waikoloa Beach Drive in Waikoloa.

Run for Hope 2012

Join 300 to 400 people as they walk and run their way to a cancer cure at 7 a.m. on Sunday September 9 at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.

The 10k run and 5k run/walk non-competitive event has a pre-registration donation fee of $25, and $30 on the day of the run/walk. This donation fee buys each participant a t-shirt.
