Authorities are looking for witnesses to an incident that took place early Saturday morning on  Akoni Pule Highway in South Kohala.

A 26-year-old Kamuela woman told police from an emergency room bed at North Hawaii Community Hospital that she had jumped from a vehicle, believed to be a dark blue, four-door Dodge Ram pickup truck that was heading in the Kona direction. The vehicle was moving at around 55 miles per hour.

The woman was later transferred to Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where she has been listed in critical condition. The case is being investigated as a negligent injury.

Anyone who may have seen the incident, or have information on what took place, should call police. The non-emergency line is 935-3311. Those who wish to remain anonymous should call the Crime Stoppers number in West Hawaii, which is 329-8181.
