A fire destroyed a single family home on Ahikawa Street in Kailua-Kona on Monday.

The fire department arrived at 73-1081 Ahikawa St. at 4:00 p.m. and found the home completely engulfed in flames. According to a department release, they put the fire out within 27 minutes, attacking the flames defensively to protect exposures near the home. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

During the fire fighting operation, a roadblock was put in place for a short time to allow crews to fight the fire. The roadblock sent people off to Kaiminani Drive until the scene was safe.

On Twitter, the Hawaii Red Cross (@HawaiiRedCross) said that their volunteers had responded to the house fire, and that they “will assist those affected w/immediate emergency needs.”
