A 92-year-old Hilo resident has died from injuries suffered when a vehicle hit her while reversing on the Kamana Senior Center property.

Authorities responded to a call at 8:48 a.m. at the facility, which is located at 127 Kamana Street in Hilo. Police learned that Tamiko Fujio was hit while walking to her vehicle by a 59-year-old Hilo woman who was reversing her 2008 Toyota sedan from the lawn area of the facility. Fujio died several hours later at the Hilo Medical Center.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Fujio was not injured, and police do not believe that alcohol, speed, or drugs played a part in the accident. A negligent homicide case has been opened by the Traffic Enforcement Unit, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
