An abandoned warehouse in Pahala was damaged in a fire that started shortly before noon today.

According to Capt. Neil Yoshioka of the Pahala fire station, firefighters arriving on the scene found smoke coming out of a doorway of the metal-framed structure at the former Pahala Mill off Maile Street.

Yoshioka said the fire involved paper waste on the floor and spread up a wall of the building’s wooden interior, eventually reaching the rafters of the 30-by-40-foot structure.

Firefighters utilizing two fire trucks and two tankers took 10 minutes to get the fire under control and another hour to fully extinguish the blaze.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
