First Insurance Company of Hawai Ltd. (FICOH) announced today in a release that Chris Talbert will be joining the company as its new chief information officer and vice president of information technology solutions.

In a statement, company president and CEO Allen Uyeda said about Talbert “he’s able to look at a challenge from both a business operations and IT perspective. It’s exactly this balance of experience that attracted us to Chris to lead our short- and long-term technology efforts.”

After starting in the insurance industry in 1973, Talbert got into software development in 1989 for a company called Decision Research Corporation, serving as senior vice president of the Hawaii-based company. After completion of a project for his first employer, AIG, Talbert then formed his own start-up insurance specialty software development company. Most recently, he was the head of Home Loans Technology at INGDirect.

FICOH has claims personnel across the state, including two on Hawai’i Island, one each in Hilo and Kailua-Kona.
